बिश्व सेवा Bishwa-means the world we live in and Seva-means to serve, from the Nepali language-this phrase translates to serving the world and its inhabitants.
The Bishwa Seva Foundation is a San Diego based grassroots 501(C)(3) charitable organization. Our foundation in the U.S., operates through the dedication of kind hearted volunteers and sponsors locally in San Diego, across the U.S. and internationally. With no paid staff, over 94% of our funds goes directly towards our ongoing projects.
The purpose of the Bishwa Seva Foundation is to raise funds and provide educational and basic needs for underprivileged children in Nepal. Every year, with generous donations and volunteer support, we continue to grow and serve many more students and locals villagers in Panauti, Nepal.
Since 2009, we have been supporting children in Nepal, providing housing for some children in great need, education at a high performing private school, uniforms and necessary learning materials along with nutritious lunches. We have grown from supporting 5 children in 2009 to 50 children since 2014.
Along the way we have included fund raising projects to provide needed blankets to the elderly, disabled and homeless in Nepal especially during winter months. Another ongoing project provides needed school supplies, including backpacks and stationary, to schools located in hard to access regions on the outskirts of Panauti.
Following the earthquake in 2015, we expanded our services to accommodate the victims by providing emergency aid and rebuilding assistance to rural communities in Nepal. We continue to work towards a teaching center to help the local community.
Currently, due to the effects of the COVID 19 pandemic, the villagers in rural Nepal have been in greater need of food supplies so we initiated a Food Relief project. This program has been funded by generous donors and run by volunteers of Bishwa Seva Nepal to supply important basic food necessities to elders, individuals with disabilities and families that have had their resources greatly diminished.
